We came to this passage and the teacher said: Go home!

   When I was at the Jawne the Kristallnacht came. And you know, the synagogue was on fire next door. I remember that very well.

   We came to this passage (at the entrance) and the teacher said: Go home! We saw the smoke because the synagogue was on one side of the schoolyard and the whole stuff was on there. Oh yes, they burned it. It may not have burnt to the ground, that I don't know. We were sent straight home. We lived in Sülz at that time and on the way home we saw the other synagogue burning, the one in the Roonstraße.
