The most important person in my opinion

When you look at the Jawne teachers, Moritz Samuel is the most important person in my opinion. Because he taught me English. And after four months in this country I was fluent in that, and after eight, sixteen months, I got a top in English in my class – in England! He was bachelor by the way, he never married. He came to England, I met him here, and he lived to quite a good age and finished up in Bournemouth in the South. He lived there with his sister. And he was such a fabulously good teacher. In those days no French, no Latin, no nothing – English, English, English every day. Because we were trained to go to America. And he taught us English so fantastically well. A nice man. A religious Jewish man as well. He took a job on in a town about 50, 60 kilometres from here in the North during the war, he was teaching German there.
