We had some good teachers, though not all of them were, but the women were all good

So I first went to the ‘Volksschule’ in Lützowstraße, and was in Miss Freyer’s class; everyone started at Lützowstraße School, since there was no other Jewish school, and then at eleven, I’m not quite sure any more – at eleven? – we went on to high school, to the Yavneh, and there I stayed until I was 15, and had many girlfriends.

We had some good teachers, though not all of them were, but the women were all good. Mrs Frank was good and Mrs Lüthgen. She taught us English, ‘Lütsch’, we called her; she was very good. And Miss Joseph was amazing, it was a real pleasure to be with her, wasn’t it? She was pretty and young and fun, such a pleasure. And Miss Katz was there, Hilde. She came from Gütersloh, from Westphalia, she was really nice. But some of the teachers were older and we didn’t like them as much. It was only Klibansky who ever had to punish me. I wasn’t very well-behaved. I was really cheeky, a cheeky so-and-so.
