In England nobody wears knickerbockers

Although I had no idea what a typical Englishman looked like, I liked thinking about it. I imagined having a pipe in my mouth, wearing knickerbockers and a sporty cap. My family dressed me smartly and bought me some knickerbockers. They thought that was what people wear in England. All my trousers were knickerbockers. But in England nobody wears those so I didn’t have any trousers to wear when I got there.
